Somatic Breathwork

What is Somatic Breathwork? 

Somatic breathwork is an embodiment experience. It is a journey inward. It takes you out of your thinking mind and into your body’s electrical network. Somatic breathwork facilitates your release of pent up energy within this network, which may be caused by repeating thoughts, feelings and old narratives by discharging that pent up energy through your body. These past patterns may have caused your nervous system to become dys-regulated.

Using the breath, you may engage your innate ability to clear out defences, blockages, restrictions or pains that hold you back from who you are and how you want to show up in this world.

What the session will look like

We will be together for 90 minutes. Renee Hefferan, yoga & pilates teacher and Reiki practitioner will be present to assist me and help hold the space for you all. The breathwork journey itself will be 60 minutes. The first 15 minutes will allow you to settle in while I walk you through the ideology of somatic breathwork, the process of the session and time to set an intention for the session within yourself. Throughout the session you will be guided by words, sounds, music & possibly some hands on touch (if consented to). The final 10-15 minutes will be your time to come back, there will be a snack provided, opportunity to share if you feel called or just sit in silence and integrate, the choice is yours!

Contraindications 

SomatIQ Breathwork™ is not appropriate for pregnant women, for persons with cardiovascular problems, including angina or heart attack, uncontrolled high blood pressure, glaucoma, retinal detachment, osteoporosis, history of seizures, stroke, major psychiatric conditions, recent surgery, acute infectious illness, or epilepsy.

If you have any doubt about whether you should participate, please reach out and/or consult with your primary care physician.

Persons with asthma should bring their inhaler.

Loving Reminders

  • Please arrive 15 minutes early to sign the consent form and get settled in

  • Wear loose, breathable clothing

  • Bring a water bottle and yoga mat

  • {Optional} bring a journal, and small blanket as body temperature can fluctuate

  • Avoid food 1.5 - 2 hours prior

  • Turn cell phones and watches on silent/airplane mode
